Alkmaar cheers, Egmond weeps. 450 years ago the Spaniards were defeated and Alkmaar became a free city again. The monks in Egmond celebrate the festival, but with a tear in their eyes. What remained for them was a destroyed abbey that was used to strengthen the city wall of Alkmaar.
